> The LS-VTEC Hybrid, or Frankenstein motor, combines the best of two different Honda powerplants while maintaining OEM parts and reliablity. The LS-VTEC takes its name from the most commonly used parts; the 1.8 litre shortblock from an Integra LS (or GS/RS), and a VTEC head from an Integra Type R/GSR, Civic Si or Del Sol VTEC. > The 2 litre version can be created in two ways: using a stock 2 litre CR-V block or having an Integra LS/RS/GS block sleeved to displace 2 litres. > The reason for using either shortblock, aside from displacement in the 2 litre, is the stroke. The Type R and GSR have a stroke of 87.2mm, while the LS or CR-V stroke is 89mm. Combining either option with OEM JDM VTEC pistons results in substantial low and mid-range torque, as well as increased horsepower across the entire power band. > Additional power and torque is easily obtainable through exhaust, intake and cams. Add to the mix the key ingredients of a good tuning solution along with King's expert tuners and you've got the recipe for some serious all-motor power! |
