Head Milling and Block Decking

Whenever an engine is disassembled, the head and block should be milled/decked to assure a perfectly flat surface for the head gasket. In addition, this assures that the head gasket surface is perfection perpendicular to the bore.

Overheating is the main cause of head warpage, but over time, especially on high mileage motors, the head and block surfaces develop high/low spots. In addition, mishandling can result it nicks and dings which must be removed.

A "clean up pass" consists of milling .005" off of each, and will not affect cam timing.

On many performance engines, head and block milling are advantageous for fine-tuning compression, chamber squish etc.

.010 is the maximum amount that can be milled in each pass.
